The Players Championship has made its return at full strength after a false start two years ago and a slew of notable names missing from last year’s field. That is not the case in 2022 as 47 of the top 50 players in the world are taking on the pristine TPC Sawgrass course.
Unfortunately, The Players suffered a different type of false start this year with the first round being delayed due to severe inclement weather in the Jacksonville, Florida, area. The hope was to get back on track Friday, but Mother Nature had completely different plans on her mind. While golfers continued their first rounds, they were still not able to conclude because of the heavy rain and wind. Now, the end of the first round and beginning of the second round spills over into Saturday with a weekday finish in sight.
Because of the severity of the weather, the PGA Tour has yet to announce a definitive time for restarting the action on Saturday. As of right now, all that’s known is play will begin no earlier than 11 a.m. ET.
The most wonderful time of the golf season — six straight months of top-tier events featuring the best golfers in the world — continues in Jacksonville, Florida, with world No. 1 Jon Rahm entering as favorite. Defending champion Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, one of the best young players in the world, started the event among the top three on the Caesars Sportsbook odds board.
