TEMPERANCE – Bedford’s girls basketball team only managed 37 points Tuesday night.
That’s not a great offensive output – especially against a state-ranked opponent with one of your top players sidelined with an injury.
But it was enough Tuesday night in the Mules’ biggest victory of the season.
Bedford knocked off Saline 37-35.
“The girls played their tails off on defense,” Bedford coach Bill Ryan said. “I could not be more proud of the girls.”
And they did it without starter Sophia Gray, who should be ready to return next week.
Offensively, freshman Peyton Behnke led the way with 11 points – her third straight game in double figures.
“She’s understanding the system,” Ryan sad. “When the season started, she was projected to be the strongest of our (four) freshmen. Maybe it’s our more deliberate play, or our playbook or some of the things we asked her to do defensively, but she started slow. She’s dialed in now.”
Bedford improved to 10-2.

WESTLAND – Ida had just 8 points at halftime in their last game.
The Blue Streaks had three times that many by the end of the first quarter Tuesday in rolling to a 45-12 win over Lutheran Westland.
Ida led 24-2 after the first quarter.
Ida coach Tim Leonard said his girls took a little more time and concentrated on their shots.
“When we take an extra second to get the shots we are capable of machining, we do a pretty good job of hitting them,” he said. “When we play quicker teams, we tend to rush and don’t take our time.”
Katherine Hovest and Grace Capling had 10 points each to lead the 6-8 Blue Streaks and Jessica Schrader added 9.
