Online Games 2026: Co-op, Party and Browser Picks

A good online game is not the one with the biggest player count. It is the one your group actually opens on a Tuesday night. We test co-op, party and competitive games for onboarding time, match length, crossplay and how they behave on ordinary hardware.

How we cover online games

Each pick gets at least ten hours across a group of three to six players, on a mix of laptops, consoles and phones. We note queue times, lobby friction, voice chat options and whether a new player can contribute in the first match. Free-to-play picks are tested without spending money.

How to choose what to read first

Choose by group size first, then by session length. Two players need a different game than six, and a 20-minute match fits a weeknight better than a 90-minute raid. Check the crossplay notes before downloading, and read the setup section for the settings that save the first hour.

When to check back

Online games change quickly. We recheck picks each quarter and mark seasonal events, battle passes and server merges in the update note. A game that was great last year can be a poor recommendation after a matchmaking overhaul, so check the date at the top of each guide.
