Training to Jump Higher


Training to jump higher is important if you’re a basketball player. I know all about this because I’ve been playing this sport since I was a young child! Growing up, Michael Jordan was my idol not just because of his amazing plays, but because of his staggering vertical jump and the great dunks too. If you want to explode your vertical jump then let me give you exactly what you’re looking for.

You may or may not be aware of the best techniques that you should incorporate in your training to jump higher. Obviously the bigger your leg muscles are the more explosive potential muscle you have to take off with. Muscle mass is not everything but it certainly helps so here is what have been the most widely used exercises in this field.

To build your quads and hamstrings you’ll want to do very specific squats and deadlifts that will target maximum fast twitch muscle fibre growth. Now to do this, you need to be very intense when working out, and lift heavy weight. You’ll want to do low reps but really stress the muscles by adding lots of weight so you physically cannot do anymore than 5 reps at a time.

If you have not done any type of training before, then do not start out with really heavy weight at first. If you do then you will get injured so you need to practise good form first to avoid injury!

So when you are training to jump higher what are the other important factors that you must have a firm knowledge of? Well, proper nutrition is absolutely essential here. You need to eat foods that will specifically target maximum muscle growth, so a high protein diet is essential.

Once you know what it takes to increase muscle mass in your legs, you need to understand the science behind jumping. This is when it can be difficult to understand because there is a lot of misinformation out there! For instance, I was told that I would never be able to get my vertical above 40 inches because I was a white male! This is utter nonsense obviously, but you need to get some trusted advice and not just a friends opinion that’s for sure!

When you are training to jump higher, make sure that you have the correct principles and correct training methods at your disposal because it really does make all the difference. Increasing your vertical can be tricky but it really doesn’t have to be.
